The 3rd Installment of the Packard series starring Andre' Joseph and Tomas A. Melendez

"The climax for the Defense."

A new muscle enhancer pill has appeared on the streets of New York. Under the name of Magic Man, the pill is said to be less dangerous than steroids and works best before workouts.

Former secret service agent-turned-detective, Rick Packard, and his partner, Det. Paul Ostrowski, continue their routine jobs in the NYPD solving murders, kidnappings, and drug and arms trafficking. But Packard's love life gets complicated again following a sexual encounter with his psychologist, Dr. Laurie Leigh. Since the day she made love to him in her office, Laurie is emotionally confused and is unwilling to start a relationship with Packard.

Meanwhile, Anardo Franks, the former head of the Fandango Corporation who had Packards military pal murdered three years ago, has escaped from a British prison with the aide of his assassin nephew, Frampton. Bad news comes from Framptons mouth when he informs Anardo about his Magic Man factory in London being raided by the Scotland Yard. Therefore, Anardo plans to return back to the states with Frampton to start up a new base of operations for the production and distribution of the pills. In addition, Franks also wants to get his revenge against the man that destroyed his previous empire: Packard.

As Magic Man continues to soar in sales, Sigma, the former Secret Service agent-turned-hitman that attempted to kill Packard a while ago, becomes increasingly addicted to the pills for his own self-improvement. One night, he intends to admit the truth about his profession to his long-term girlfriend, Lauren. But when Lauren discovers the truth herself (By finding a bag full of assault weapons and grenades), an over-the-limit Sigma unconsciously attacks and accidentally kills Lauren. Realizing he committed murder, Sigma goes on the run.

Packard and Ostrowski are assigned to solve the murder and discover traces of the pill in her home. When tested by forensics, the Magic Man pill is said to be mixed with steroids and an unidentifiable form of narcotics that sends false senses to the brain. The police is 100% positive that Sigma is the killer; however, Packard, who had made peace with his former enemy since, is sure that the pills were the real killer.

As Packard and Ostrowski search for him, Sigma discovers from his street sources about Franks being the manufacturer of Magic Man and intends to get revenge for Laurens death. This leads to Packard and Ostrowski breaking up an apartment in Brooklyn where the pill is being made, a chase from a Magic Man house party to a dark Central Park at night where all three parties confront each other, a shopping mall stakeout where a confrontation between Sigma and Franks takes place, and Franks taking his old office building hostage causing Packard and Ostrowski to work with the S.W.A.T. team to save the hostages.

During these events, Dr. Leigh starts to grow feelings of admiration towards Packard which makes him contemplate retirement. Little does he know that a leak in the department may put Dr. Leighs life in jeopardy leading to a final, bloody showdown between Packard and Franks. Will Sigma gain his revenge and have his name cleared? Will Packard hang it all up to settle down with Laurie? Does Franks escape in victory or death? What is known is that three men are going to put their lives on the line for only one purpose: Redemption.
